Wooden Speaker
This is a wooden replica of my Bose speaker, made as a gift to my friend. It is a 1:1 scale model made out of Pinewood. The engraving has been done using a CNC machine.
I wanted to replica to play a song, regardless of its wooden nature. So I came up with the idea of using Spotify codes to play songs (sorry Apple Music users). I replaced the model name with the code and kept the icons intact in my design. This vector file was then opened as a cad file for the CNC machine. The engraving was also tested on a piece of wood to get it right for the final piece.
The piece was then sanded to remove the scorch marks and then finally polished. Finally, I lightly varnished it and then sprayed it with 2 coats of melamine polish. Slight cleaning with a needle was required to take out the melamine that had been deposited in the engraving. The code works (using the Spotify app) and plays a special song.
The speaker currently lives happily on my friend's nightstand.
