Spotlight: T-Shirt Design in the Behance Network

By Heather Ann Snodgrass

Right now, in a certain area of town, some disillusioned soul is plunking down some serious cash for a "vintage" t-shirt. Later tonight, his hopes to appear effortless, cool and just that tad bit obscure will be dashed when he finds out that not only is a likeminded individual in the same bar wearing his prized tee, but that Urban Outfitters also carries it in stock. In the discount bin. In any case, he's going to be disappointed by his purchase. If our hero had taken some time to peruse the talent in the Behance Network, he wouldn't have to worry about the design factor of his choice; we don't really deal in the avoidance of impending disaster.

  • Chris Gray couldn't think of anything original, so he made another Helvetica t-shirt...to go along with his er, original t-shirts. Thirty of them, to be precise, all of which were designed in thirty days.
  • More Than A Friend specializes in beautifully illustrated designs with dark, slightly disturbed motivations. Necromantic is no exception to this rule, offering the ladies a line of designs which may (or may not) fend off less than desirable gentlemen.
  • When Jesse James and West Coast Choppers wanted some new threads, they looked to Alejandro Fuentes for help. He, in turn, delivered them a myriad of designs that no Chopper owner in their right mind would pass up. Or so we'd imagine...
  • Everyone loves Bean Dip, and apparently so does YASLY -- so much, in fact, they emblazoned part of their latest line with it. The limited edition offerings never get old, either; we know this because they told us so.
  • Karoly Kiralyfalvi put her talents to work for Logik, mixing in mispellings, puns and general awareness with a mixture of bold and delicate graphics. The end result is most fun, not in the least tacky.
  • Where would we be without a few band t-shirts? Chris Rushing's work may one day show up in that aforementioned vintage store. Before then, he's going to be making some youngin's very happy with his work for As I Lay Dying, Armor for Sleep and Dead Man's Bones. (Please don't ask us about the bands' naming processes. We don't know, either.)
  • Anna-Lina Balke decided the best way to pay tribute to hip hop legends is to wear them on one's chest.
  • Ten Years in Ten Tees celebrates the decade Disturbance has remained in business. A true testament to both the firm's talent, and lets face it: gridpaper is so you.
  • We're not quite sure what a "bloob" is, nor are we confident enough to test a bulletproof t-shirt claim. We've heard, though, that Adam Hudyma's t-shirts bring all the boys to the yard and that this is, in fact, a good thing.
Appreciate It!
